First responders (FRS) and their families face unique challenges, such as unpredictable work schedules, heightened anxiety/stress, depression, or PTSD-related symptoms resulting from witnessing traumatic work scenes. The divorce rate among FR marriages is almost 15% higher that the national average, and the suicide rate continues to climb. My lived experience in a first responder marriage has provided insight into the mental health needs of the FR community. In addition to my training in trauma-related disorders, I have also received specialized training in FR mental health through the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) and am listed provider in their directory of behavioral health providers.
