First responders (FRS) and their families face unique challenges, such as unpredictable work schedules, heightened anxiety/stress, depression, or PTSD-related symptoms resulting from witnessing traumatic work scenes. The divorce rate among FR marriages is almost 15% higher that the national average, and the suicide rate continues to climb. My lived experience in a first responder marriage has provided insight into the mental health needs of the FR community. In addition to my training in trauma-related disorders, I have also received specialized training in FR mental health through the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) and am listed provider in their directory of behavioral health providers. First responders and family may also benefit from EMDR.
